The Datsun 240Z was outfitted with a distinctive set of emblems. Many of these 50+ year old cars are now missing at least a couple emblems. Especially if the car has been sitting for a while, it is not uncommon to see an old 240Z that is missing nearly every emblem. If you’re trying to restore or just improve the appearance an old 240Z, installing a new set of emblems may be the finishing touch your Z needs before you can call it perfect.
This article will serve as a guide for what constitutes a full emblem set for both Series 1 and Series 2 240Zs, as well as how to install them securely. In the past, buying replacement emblems could quickly become quite a expensive and time-consuming endeavor, but thanks to some new products that have come to market, you can likely find reproduction emblems at an affordable price point.
Series 1 (1970 – mid 1971) Emblem Set
A Series 1 emblem set consists of (2) ‘240Z’ roof pillar emblems, (2) ‘DATSUN’ side emblems, (1) hood emblem, (1) ‘Datsun’ rear hatch emblem, (1) ‘240Z’ rear hatch emblem, and (2) rear hatch vents. The rear hatch vents are not really emblems, but they are similar in that if you are replacing any emblems, your rear hatch vents are probably ready to be replaced as well.
‘240Z’ C Pillar Emblems
A Series 1 240Z featured two C pillar emblems that displayed the ‘240Z’ logo on top of a circle design similar to the hood emblem.
Side Emblems
A Series 1 240Z featured two side emblems on the front fenders just next to the doors. For Series 1 240Zs, this emblem says ‘DATSUN’ in white lettering.
Hood Emblem
All 240Zs featured this prominent circular hood emblem with ‘DATSUN’ across the center.
